Cardano’s NIGHT Airdrop: 11,000+ Wallets Claim Tokens Despite Upgrade Disappointment

Cardano's Midnight Network successfully launched its NIGHT token airdrop, distributing over 250 million tokens to more than 11,000 wallets across eight different blockchains within hours of its August 5th launch. The “Glacier Drop,” the first phase of a multi-stage distribution process, allows eligible wallets from Cardano, Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana, BNB, Avalanche, and Brave's BAT to claim tokens. A total of 33.6 million wallets are eligible to participate in the distribution of 24 billion NIGHT tokens, with Cardano users receiving the largest share (50%).
The claim process is designed to be fair and non-custodial, requiring users to verify their eligibility and sign a transaction. The first phase will last 60 days, followed by a “Scavenger Mine” phase where users can earn unclaimed tokens through on-chain tasks. A final “Lost-and-Found” phase will address late claims. However, the launch wasn't without glitches. Many Cardano users with Ledger hardware wallets encountered issues due to firmware limitations, requiring a workaround from Cardano developers.
Interestingly, the successful airdrop contrasts with the underwhelming market response to Cardano's recent $71 million network upgrade. Intended to enhance smart contract performance and scalability, the upgrade has failed to significantly impact ADA's price, which remains around $0.72, showing a recent drop. This highlights the potential disconnect between technological advancements and immediate market sentiment in the cryptocurrency space. The airdrop's success, despite the upgrade's lack of impact, underscores the independent appeal of token distributions and community engagement within the crypto ecosystem.
