X (formerly Twitter) has uncovered a bribery network used by suspended crypto scammers to regain access to their accounts. These scammers, some linked to the international cybercrime organization “The Com,” attempted to bribe X employees. The Com, a group primarily composed of English-speaking minors, engages in various cybercriminal activities, including crypto theft, data breaches, and violence incitement. X's Global Government Affairs team announced that it is taking action against the bribery network and fully cooperating with law enforcement. This incident highlights the ongoing issue of crypto scams, with PeckShield reporting a 15% increase in losses in August 2025, reaching $163 million due to hacks and exploits. The significant rise in crypto-related crimes underscores the need for robust security measures and collaborative efforts to combat these activities. The case exposes the lengths scammers will go to, even resorting to bribery, to maintain access to platforms used for illicit activities. X's response demonstrates a proactive approach to platform security and highlights the importance of collaboration between social media companies and law enforcement in tackling international cybercrime.
